At the Hutchinson Center for Aesthetic Medicine we are able to permanently reduce unwanted hair growth with state of the art lasers. We are able to safely and quickly treat all skin types, from the lightest skin tone to the darkest with the Gentlelase lasers by Candela. These lasers safely remove unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. Facial, bikini and underarm areas are usually completed in under 10 minutes; legs, backs and larger areas can take longer.
How does the laser treatment work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deeply into the skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling Device technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen.
How do I prepare for the treatment?
Patients scheduled for hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis or hair waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. Also, your skin should be clean shaven and your skin should be thoroughly cleansed and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self tanning products before the laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Many factors impact the efficacy of the individuals results, including the severity of the condition being treated.
How long do treatments last?
Sessions can vary from patient to patient, lasting from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Typically a full face treatment will take between 20-30 minutes.
How much time should there be allocated between sessions?
Hair begins to regrow following scheduled session. The timing for this can range from four to eight weeks, depending on hair type and the part of the body being treated. On average, appointments are scheduled four to six weeks apart.
Can all hair be treated?
We are able to treat hair with color. Laser treatments have proven effective on a wide range of hair colors, from auburn to brown and dark black hair. Any hair with at least some pigment can be treated. Red, white and light blond hairs can be treated with our GentleYag laser treatment.
What does the treatment feel like?
Most people respond to hair removal treatments very well. Discomfort is often described as a slight tingling or a pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. Topical anesthesia can be used when treating particularly sensitive areas of the body.
Does this technology really remove hair long-term?
Yes. Scientific studies show that the use of targeted, light-based energy actually damages or destroys hair follicles at the cellular level. A permanent reduction in the number of regrowing hairs is usually achieved following each treatment.
